Top national prospect A’ja Wilson concluded a year of heavy recruiting with a few simple words.
“I will be attending the University of South Carolina,” she said on Wednesday.
Wilson pledged to USC at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, surrounded by family and friends who loudly applauded as she once again flashed her familiar smile. Telling the decision to ESPNU simultaneously, Wilson didn’t pause for any dramatics, knowing that the past year where she kept her thinking to herself had been dramatic enough.
The Gamecocks receive a player gifted at playing inside and out, with the ability to shoot 3-pointers as well as she plays in the paint. USC, which won 29 games and the SEC regular-season championship last season, already had the No. 4 recruiting class in the country. It now stands to rise to at least No. 2.
“They’re a program on the rise and I would love to be a part of it,” said Wilson.
Already wearing the Gamecocks shirt afterward with the same words, she said, “There’s no place like home.”
