Beta Chi Sigma, the Columbia, S.C. alumni chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is hosting its annual Christmas Party Toy Drive on Saturday, December 10th from 8 p.m. until midnight at The Event Hall at Professional Plaza, 2901 Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C., 29204. The goal of the event is to collect toys and donation money to buy presents for children in the Greater Columbia area. Collaborating on the event this year is the Beta Beta Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., the constitutionally bound sister sorority to Phi Beta Sigma.

“This is one of our most consistently successful events as far as raising donations and giving back to our community,” said Devaris Davis, president of the Beta Chi Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma. “It’s something of a win-win situation for the adults who attend and the kids. The adults enjoy a wonderful party, and the children now have things under the tree on Christmas Day that they otherwise would not have had.”

This year’s Christmas Party Toy Drive has been deemed the “masquerade edition”. Attendees are encouraged to wear a masquerade mask, and the dress code is semi-formal attire. Providing music for the event will be DJ B-Ice. There will be all-you-can-eat heavy hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, and awards. The party is for adults, ages 21 and up. The Columbia Sigmas will distribute the toys through a local nonprofit to local children.

“We really want to have everyone we can come on out so that our event is successful,” Davis said. “But thus far the great people of Columbia have not let us down in this effort.

Davis wanted to stress for those who have attended the Christmas Party Toy Drive in the past that the event –which in the recent past has been held at The Big Apple in Downtown Columbia – has a new location this year. Admission is $15 with a toy donation or $20 without a toy donation. Tickets can be purchased online at or from members of Beta Chi Sigma.

The Beta Chi Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc. was chartered in 1950 on the campus of Allen University, and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity. Beta Chi Sigma has a number of events and initiatives it organizes, including this annual toy drive party, an annual “Crab Crack” scholarship fundraiser, and an annual golf tournament. Beta Chi Sigma is also the advisory chapter for undergraduate Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity chapters at Allen University, Benedict College, and the University of South Carolina.
