The Richland County Transportation Penny Program, which is funded by the one-cent sales tax referendum passed by the voters of Richland County in November of 2012, is pleased to announce the construction of another local intersection project. The intersection, located at Kennerly Road and Coogler Road/Steeple Ridge Road, is the fourth of six intersection improvements to begin this year under a contract awarded by Richland County to C. R. Jackson Construction Company, a locally owned construction contractor based in Columbia.
Construction at the intersection of Kennerly Road and Coogler Road/Steeple Ridge Road is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2016 and should be substantially completed by March of next year. The existing intersection will be reconstructed into a roundabout which should significantly improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection.
Motorists should be aware that Steeple Ridge Road will be closed at Kennerly Road for several weeks during the construction. The public will be notified prior to the road closure. When this section of Steeple Ridge Road is closed, the Ascot Subdivision should be accessed via Laurent Way at Kennerly Road or Steeple Ridge Road at Hollingshed Road.
All motorists traveling through the project area are asked to be aware of the crews, equipment and potential traffic delays during the construction. Motorists are also asked to pay attention to traffic control signs, reductions in the speed limit and the message display board information. Alternative routes are recommended, where possible. Please note that all road work is dependent on the weather conditions.
The contractor, C. R. Jackson, Inc., is responsible for the maintenance of the intersection for the duration of the project.
