Reid Chapel A.M.E. Church was founded in 1954 by Bishop Frank Madison Reid, Sr., then Presiding Bishop of the Seventh Episcopal District in the A.M.E. Church. He saw the need to organize an AME Church in the Greenview Community and appointed Rev. L.M. Seward (retired presiding elder and current member of Reid Chapel) as the first pastor. It was under Rev. Seward’s leadership when the church opened V.V. Reid Nursery and Kindergarten in 1953 and a year later had its inaugural worship service at Reid Chapel. V.V. Reid Academy is the longest serving school founded and operated by a church in South Carolina with over 64 years of service. V.V. Reid has educated thousands of students. Presently, Rev. Carey A. Grady serves as the Senior Pastor of Reid Chapel A.M.E. Church. For more information, please visit www.reidchapel.org
