(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – Sherard “Shekeese” Duvall, former Nickelodeon Theatre education director and co-founder of Love, Peace & Hip-Hop, announces an innovative media firm, OTR Media Group—a visual storytelling, film education and media strategy company—and the offering of a film course at Columbia College.
“OTR Media Group was created to leverage my experience and resources in developing film products, moving image literacy education and crafting messaging strategies that resonate with African-American consumers. We’ve put that diversified expertise under one roof” says Duvall, “because understanding how to tell, share and communicate a story effectively is at the center of everything we do.” The brand identity and website was developed by Jessica Boyd of The Gild Agency and Tiffany Hughes of Haphazard Designs – two minority/woman-owned firms.
OTR Media Group launches with several projects under its three umbrellas: media content, media literacy and media strategy. Those projects include the one-hour documentary Gullah Gone: Preserving the Land, Water and Culture of the Sea Islands and the GreenBook of South Carolina, the mobile travel guide that recently won the 2017 Marketing Communication Award for the SC Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.
In addition to the launch of OTR Media Group, Duvall also will be joining the Communication, Language, and Literature Department at Columbia College as an adjunct professor for the spring 2018 semester. His class, WRIT 350 – An Introduction to Narrative with Digital Video, explores the basics of documentary film production, moving image literacy and visual storytelling. “We are so excited to have Mr. Duvall join us this year” states division chair Dr. Nancy Tuten. “He brings a depth of experience in film and storytelling. The students and faculty are very much looking forward to having him with us.”
After years of working in music, Shekeese is ready to focus his energy into film. “I think the work that I have done in Columbia so far is a true testament to the vision, capabilities and willingness to dig in and take things to the next level. I am thrilled to be able to continue that with OTR Media Group.”
