For Ahkeem / For the Record – Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 6:30 PM – 8 PM at Nickelodeon Theatre, 1607 Main St, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. An intimate portrait of Daje Shelton, a seventeen year old whom a judge orders to enroll in an alternative school. This emotional coming of age story unfolds against the backdrop of the 2014 uprising in Ferguson, Missouri, illuminating the nuances of St. Louis’ troubled educational and economic systems and the deeply personal experiences of the students they impact.

A post-screening conversation about the experiences of youth in today’s education system accompanies the program; the discussion will be led by Josh Gupta-Kagan, Assistant Professor of Law at USC, Tiffany Grant, community leader and social worker, and Dr. Maxine Barker, psychologist at the SC Department of Juvenile Justice.

Career Advantage / Getting the Job – Career Development Workshop – Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 9 AM – 3 PM at IT-oLogy, 1301 Gervais St #200, Columbia, South Carolina. With IT-oLogy’s partnership with Furman University and BlueCross BlueShield SC, we will engage professionals in IT Career Development workshops with a focus around soft skills specific to the IT industry. Richland One Choice Fair – Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:30 PM – 8 PM at Crayton Middle, 5000 Clemson Avenue, Columbia, South Carolina 29206. On Thursday, January 11, 2018, the district will hold its first-ever Choice Fair where families can learn more about magnet programs and other options available to students at schools throughout the district. The event will be held from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Crayton Middle School gym, 5000 Clemson Avenue. School and district staff will be on site to share information about Richland One’s choice programs and answer questions from parents and students, including about eligibility criteria and application procedures. All Richland One parents are invited and encouraged to attend.
