Solar Science Saturdays – Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at South Carolina State Museum, 301 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Every Saturday in August the museum will be full of Solar Eclipse related activities for kids including: Hovercraft Rides, Rocket Launching, Creating Pinhole Projectors, Discovering the Solar Spectrum with UV beads and spectroscopes etc. Solar Science Saturdays are free with museum general admission or membership on August 5, 12 and 26th. Solar Science Saturday activities during Pre-Eclipse Weekend at the State Museum on Sat., Aug. 19 will be included with ticket purchase.

Back-to-School Bash – Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at Martin Luther King Park, 2300 Greene Street, Columbia, SC. Celebrate the start of a new school year at our Back-to-School Bash! There will be games, bounce houses, face painting, door prizes and free school supplies while supplies last.

The 701 Center for Contemporary Art (701 CCA) is pleased to present the Fourth Annual Young Artists Festival celebrating young artists, ages 6 to 17, in the Midlands. This family friendly event will feature performances from local arts organizations, an exhibition of works by 701 CCA summer camp participants, games and crafts stations where children can create new works of art! City of Columbia Summer Concert Series: SOS Band – Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 7 PM – 10 PM at Finlay Park, 930 Laurel Street, Columbia, SC 29201. R&B and electro-funk group the S.O.S. Band will hit the Finlay Park stage at the City of Columbia’s Summer Concert Series. The free concert will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. and is open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs. No pets, glass or alcoholic beverages allowed. Food vendors will be available.
