World Heart Day Celebration – Friday, September 29, 2017 from 12 PM – 2 PM at Spirit Communications Park, 1640 Freed Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine will host the Move with the Mayor World Heart Day Celebration at noon on Sept. 29 at Spirit Communications Park. James Patrick, fitness guru, will lead the walk and light exercise for the participants. The walk will consist of three laps around the Spirit Communications Park track, which is approximately one mile.
The first 50 attendees will receive a free pedometer, which connects to a mobile application that keeps track of activity. In addition to the walk, Palmetto Health will provide free cholesterol screenings, and heart-healthy top bodybuilding snacks for participants of the walk will be provided.
CMA Jazz on Main: An Evening with Vocalist Maria Howell – Friday, September 29, 2017 from7 PM – 10 PM at Columbia Museum of Art, 1515 Main St, Columbia, South Carolina 29201. Join us to kick off the new season of this exciting series of hot jazz performances under the artistic direction of internationally renowned band leader Noel Freidline. Back by very popular demand, vocalist Maria Howell once again graces the stage with her dynamic presence and inimitable vocal stylings. Joined by the Noel Freidline Quartet, Howell pays tribute to female artists and groups that became points of reference and influence for those who came after them. Featuring works by Carole King, Karen Carpenter, Carly Simon, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Chiffons, and the Shirelles, Howell and Freidline will also perform selections from their recently released album Old Devil Moon. Okra Strut Saturday Night Music Series – Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 6 PM – 11 PM at Community Park of Irmo, 7507 Eastview Drive, Irmo, South Carolina. Saturday after the parade starting around 10am the Okra Strut festivities will begin in the Irmo Community Park. There will dozens of vendors and exhibitors for you to stop by and participate. Many will have games or free samples as well as items for purchase. The amusement rides will be up and running and we will have attractions on the big stage all day.
These attractions include Freeway Music artist performances, Okra Eating Contests and lots more. Starting at around 6pm The Blue Pickups will take the stage followed by headliner’s Mother’s Finest! Beverages and food will be available all night.
