Richland County is boasting the noteworthy achievements of three Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center officers, each of whom graduated Thursday from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Detention (BD) training program.
Sgt. Cohanskie Goodson and Officers Kortney Myers and Kelly Buechel were among those in BD Class 466 who successfully completed the rigorous three-week training course. The mission of the BD training program is to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of a certified detention officer in the state of South Carolina.
“Richland County and the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center family are proud of these outstanding individuals and their accomplishments,” said Crayman Harvey, detention center director. “Each of them are examples of dedicated and hardworking staff who are committed to bettering the Alvin S. Glenn community and those we serve.”
Sgt. Goodson also was recognized with the Bert Friday Award, given to the student who attains the highest cumulative academic score for all unit tests.
Additionally, Sgt. Goodson was one of only two students to receive the Distinguished Graduate Award. The award is given to students who attain a cumulative academic score of at least 384 points out of a possible 400 (a minimum 96 percent academic average) for all unit tests.
