(Columbia, SC) – This weekend, the South Carolina State Fairgrounds will transform into a vibrant hub of global cultures as the Columbia International Festival returns for its 30th year. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., at 1200 Rosewood Drive, Columbia.
Festival organizers confirmed that 116 countries will be represented this year, providing attendees a rare opportunity to explore diverse cultures through food, music, dance, and other performances.
“This event serves as a big history lesson for the entire community,” said festival director Dr. Raj Aluri. “It’s a unique chance to experience the rich diversity of South Carolina’s international communities firsthand.”
Since 1996, the Columbia International Festival has united area residents of various nationalities, ethnicities, and language groups, fostering understanding and improved relationships within the wider South Carolina community. Recognized among the Top 20 Events in the Southeastern Region by the Southeastern Tourism Society in 1999 and 2000, the festival annually attracts between 17,000 and 22,000 visitors.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can visit the International Food Court to experience culinary specialties from around the globe. The festival will also feature a variety of cultural demonstrations, providing guests the chance to learn origami, foreign language phrases, traditional games, and more.
Additional highlights include:
- Parade of Nations: Representatives from nearly 100 countries, dressed in traditional attire, will showcase their home country flags in a parade scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
- Cultural Entertainment: Performers representing multiple nationalities will present dances and artistic expressions from their respective cultures.
- International Fashion Shows: Adults will display traditional clothing at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with a children’s fashion show scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m.
- International Bazaar: Attendees can browse and purchase authentic crafts, jewelry, souvenirs, and clothing sourced from countries across the globe.
Admission for the two-day event is $10 for adults and $7 for teens ages 13 to 19. Parking is free.
