The Columbia Museum of Art to open with free admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Columbia Museum of Art offers the community an opportunity to explore the museum on a Monday and free of charge. Normally, the galleries are closed to the public on Mondays. The CMA offers free admission days throughout the year in an effort to provide greater accessibility, giving more people a chance to engage with original art and to perhaps visit the museum for the first time.

Visitors may enjoy:

·         The final day of Henri Matisse: Jazz & Poetry on Paper, an exhibition of artist’s books from one of the most iconic artists of the modern era.

·         The recently debuted exhibition Renée Cox: Soul Culture, featuring mesmerizing new work from a major international artist.

·         The premiere of the exhibition bridge/refrain: a short film, exploring a young woman’s arrival to the land of the ancestors after falling victim to gun violence, from artist Roni Nicole Henderson.

·         In Celebration of Dreamers, a drop-in event hosted by the Friends of African American Art & Culture to celebrate the opening of bridge/refrain. Meet the artist, craft affirmation keepsakes, move to the rhythm of vocal and dance performances by NAACP’s ACT-SO Columbia Chapter, and explore the galleries during this lively day of self-care. Food available for purchase.
