(Columbia, SC) – The Friends of African American Art and Culture (FAAAC), an affinity group of the Columbia Museum of Art (CMA), is pleased to welcome its largest class of new board members in the group’s 11-year history. Ten new community leaders have been elected to the FAAAC board of directors, beginning their terms in the 2022–2023 fiscal year.
New FAAAC board members include:
- Wanda Austin, community resource coordinator, City of Columbia
- Dr. Salandra Bowman, chief learning officer, South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV)
- Keela Glover, communication specialist, Dominion Energy
- Raishad Glover, assistant professor, Claflin University
- Crystal Jamison, founder/CEO, The Jamison Group
- Mary Jatkowski, director of outreach and engagement, Historic Columbia
- Ingrid O. McMillan, CEO, Consignors Den and Styling
- Jamesha Shakerford, organizational wellness and learning manager at Cypress Fund
- Dr. H. Kay Thomas, clinical associate professor and diversity officer in the South Carolina Honors College, University of South Carolina
- Judge Kela Thomas, Pontiac magistrate, Richland County Summary Court and vice president, business operations, Thomas Media Group
The FAAAC board of directors also elected its new officers for the 2022–2023 fiscal year:
President — Vanesha Perrin, South Carolina Department of Education
Vice President — Therese A. Griffin, Dominion Energy
Secretary — Wanda Austin, City of Columbia
Treasurer — Charles Salley, MSC Industrial Supply
“We are very excited and honored by these new additions to the FAAAC board of directors,” says Perrin. “They bring a diverse set of skills and experiences from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, but most importantly they bring a love and enthusiasm for African American art and culture.”
With the addition of 10 new board members, the FAAAC grows its volunteer board to 24 members. Board members lend their talents and expertise to ensure that the FAAAC achieves its mission of attracting diverse audiences to the CMA. Activities include serving on various FAAAC committees, planning events and fundraisers, and supporting the CMA in its mission to serve the community with enriching, inspiring, and fun experiences.
