Columbia’s Devine Selected for National Women in Government Program

COLUMBIA, SC – Columbia City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine has been selected as one of 25 national members of the Women in Government Leadership Program Class of 2017.

The program highlights elected women from across the nation to acknowledge their contributions, provide leadership development and mentor the next generation of women leaders to run for office, according to a news release.

Devine, a four-term Columbia council member, was selected from among more than 125 women nominated nationwide.

“We are woefully behind other nations in terms of gender equality,” Cathilea Robinett, president of the Governing Institute, said in a statement. The Governing Institute started the Women in Government Leadership Program in 2015.

“Women at the state and local level in both parties need and deserve our support,” Robinett said.
