(Columbia, SC) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will hold a FREE two-day virtual DBE Outreach Event on August 28 and 29 for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) to engage with prime contractors about upcoming project opportunities. A key focus of the event will be the Bridge Package 18 project, SCDOT’s proposal to repair and replace two load-restricted secondary bridges in Horry County. The Bridge Package 18 project involves the replacement of the S-31 bridge and repairs to the S-154 bridge, along with any necessary roadway improvements.
On Day 1 (August 28) from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, SCDOT and the short-listed prime contractors will deliver presentations to DBEs about the nature of the project. On Day 2, (August 29) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, DBEs will have the opportunity to participate in 15-minute, one-on-one meetings with the prime contractors.
“This event provides DBEs with a valuable opportunity to connect with prime contractors and explore potential business partnerships, supporting their growth and involvement in South Carolina’s infrastructure projects,” said Sergio Aparicio, Director of Supportive Services & Business Development. “We are committed to engaging with DBEs from all over to create sustainable outcomes for our great state. Join us as we work together to make Horry County’s roadways better for residents and visitors.”
The short-listed prime contractors are: Balfour Beatty, PLC, LEE Construction Co. of the Carolinas, and Cape Romain Contractors, Inc. The scope of work for the Bridge Package 18 project will include geotechnical exploration, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, environmental permitting, roadway and bridge design, utility coordination, and the creation of as-built plans. The construction phase will involve the:
· Demolition and removal of the existing bridges and roadways
