Focused on the Fit, an exhibition showcasing the work of iconic fashion designer Sergio Hudson

(Columbia, SC) – In an exciting announcement, the Columbia Museum of Art proudly presents “Sergio Hudson: Focused on the Fit,” an exhibition spotlighting the creations of renowned fashion designer and Midlands native, Sergio Hudson. This captivating showcase will be accessible for viewing from Saturday, November 18, 2023, through Sunday, June 30, 2024. Collaboratively curated by the CMA, Sergio Hudson Collections, LLC, and community curator Megan Pinckney Rutherford, the exhibition brings to light the extraordinary evolution of a designer whose passion for fashion ignited at the tender age of five, while residing in Ridgeway, South Carolina. Today, he stands as a titan in the industry.

Reflecting on this milestone, Sergio Hudson expressed,

Many things are happening in my life that I could only dream of — this exhibition at the CMA is one of them. I feel very lucky, and I hope my story can inspire other young men in South Carolina to believe in themselves and follow their passion.

Mark your calendars for November 18, as Sergio Hudson will grace the CMA with his presence for a special opening day program. Tickets will be available to museum members starting Monday, October 16.

Born and raised in Ridgeway, Hudson draws profound inspiration from the resilient women in his life, particularly his mother, Sheldon Hudson, who introduced him to the art of sewing. Since the inception of his eponymous label in 2014, Hudson’s fresh interpretation of luxury American sportswear has garnered widespread acclaim. His illustrious clientele includes luminaries such as Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Rihanna, Kamala Harris, Kendall Jenner, Issa Rae, Rachel Brosnahan, and his cherished muse, Keke Palmer.

At the heart of Hudson’s design philosophy is the belief that fashion should be inclusive and empowering for all. He seamlessly weaves in nostalgic nods to the ’90s, an era close to his heart. “Focused on the Fit” offers a glimpse into Hudson’s revolutionary career, featuring eight signature garments from pivotal moments, complemented by over 20 sketches and drawings chronicling his journey from clinching victory in Bravo’s Styled to Rock competition in 2013 to the present day.

This remarkable exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Columbia Museum of Art, South Carolina, Sergio Hudson Collections, LLC, and Community Curator Megan Pinckney.
