Jesica Mackey wins Richland County Council primary in District 9. Mackey, secured 52% of the vote, while Jonnieka Farr got 48%. The vote tally was Mackey 631 votes and Farr 585 votes.
The county election commission will certify the race on Thursday.
Mackey, a public relations consultant for NP Strategies will take the seat of the late Councilman Calvin “Chip” Jackson who previously held the seat since 2016. Jackson won re-election during the June Democratic primary in a runoff against Far, but Jackson died of suddenly of natural causes on August 7th. He was 65.
Mackey will not face a Republican Challenger in November.
