In observance of Aviation Week, I had a conversation with Anthony Stovall, Career Field manager for Air Traffic Control at Andrew Air Force Base in Prince George’s County, Maryland and the Founder and President of FHL Leadership Group.
CMSgt Anthony M. Stovall serves as the Career Field Functional Manager (CFFM), National Guard Bureau (NGB), Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. He is responsible for the management and planning of all personnel and equipment actions within the air traffic control (ATC) discipline in support of ANG ATC military operations. He oversees the sourcing of ANG ATC/ATCALS personnel and equipment in support of expeditionary and contingency deployments.
About Anthony Stovall
Chief Stovall began his military career in 1984 by attending Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. In September of 1984 he graduated from Inventory Management Technical School, Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado, and then was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, South Carolina, working as an Allowance and Authorization Specialist. In June 1988, Chief Stovall cross-trained and attended air traffic control technical school, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi and graduated October 1988.
In April 1992, Chief Stovall joined the South Carolina Air National Guard as a Drill Status Guardsman. He was selected for the federal technician program as an air traffic controller in April 1995 through April 2015. In April 2015, he accepted his current position at NGB as the 1C1X1 CFFM. Additionally, he serves as Co-Director, ANG Chief Executive Course under direct reporting to the ANG CCM, is actively involved with the Air National Guard Readiness Center Chiefs Group, and is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland (College Park) pursuing his Masters of Business Administration in Non-Profit Leadership and Management. He is married to the former Uneala Pope of Andrews, South Carolina and resides in Washington D.C. Joint Base Anacostia Bolling.
