New Product Launch: Fashion blogger designs handbag to honor mother and raise awareness

Having lost her mother four months after she was diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), fashion blogger and handbag enthusiast Staci Rutherford is excited to share handbags designed in her honor and to raise awareness of the rare autoimmune blood disorder, TTP.

Me&Joanie2As Staci describes, “We both loved accessories and shopping for handbags together, so I wanted to create a line of handbags named after her, “Joanie Totes”. To bring her vision to life, Staci collaborated with fashion illustrator Jennifer Lilya. “Jennifer is incredibly talented and I love her work. When I discovered her client list includes Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Sephora, I felt an immediate connection because those were Joanie’s favorite stores!” Joanie Totes are available as a limited edition item exclusively sold at

“The ‘Be Fancy & Fabulous’ Joanie Tote was inspired by my beautiful mother, who I affectionately call” Joanie”. Joanie loved to shop, travel, and made every day a party. She had impeccable taste, and was always fancy and fabulous. The Joanie Tote reflects all of those elements,” reminisces Staci.

“The mission behind Joanie Totes is to raise TTP awareness…one bag at a time. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Joanie Tote will benefit the Answering TTP Foundation (,” Staci further states, in describing the Foundation that helps patients like her mother.

According to Answering TTP Foundation, “TTP is diagnosed at a rate of 3 to 4 in 1 million people per year. Potentially fatal complications can result from internal blood clotting with damage to critical organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys.”

The answers to many questions on TTP are unknown. This includes its cause, why it happens, what may trigger a relapse from remission, why some patients relapse and others don’t, what the long term prognosis is, how to ease treatment and how to cure TTP. Answering TTP Foundation promotes research, provides support and furthers education initiatives that are designed to improve the prognosis for all TTP patients.

Celebrate Joanie’s life and her impeccable taste! Buy a Joanie Tote bag and help raise TTP awareness…one bag a time!
