President of the South Carolina Conference of Black Mayors Harold Thompson Endorses Cory Booker

Columbia, SC — After a sharp debate performance in Houston, Texas, Cory Booker has earned the endorsement of esteemed community leader and President of the South Carolina Conference of Black Mayors, Mayor Harold Thompson.  Among other accomplishments, Mayor Thompson also serves on the board of The Association of South Carolina Mayors.

“I am a steadfast supporter of Cory Booker,” said Mayor Harold Thompson, “As a former mayor, Cory knows all the intricate groundwork that has to take place to make things happen.  He leads with love, but he also knows when to turn up the heat and he knows how to lead with strength and compassion. Cory is also on top of so many issues that are of major concern to the Black community, such as the racial wealth gap, education, health care, housing, and so much more.  He is the most qualified candidate in the field to lead this country.”

Mayor Thompson joins a growing number of South Carolina leaders who support Cory and believe that beating Trump is the floor, not the ceiling. Below is a list of other notable Palmetto State elected officials who have also endorsed Cory Booker:

About Harold E. Thompson 

Harold E. Thompson, Mayor of the City of Union. He is a graduate of Temple Technical Institute of Broadcasting in Washington, D.C. and the Radio Engineering Institute of Broadcasting in Sarasota, Florida. He is a retired Photojournalist and Central Broadcast Operator from WSPA NEWS Channel 7 in Spartanburg, SC with 33 years of service. Mayor Thompson is a graduate of Leadership Union Class of 2000.  He is also a graduate of the South Carolina Municipal Institute of Government and the South Carolina Economic Development School. He has completed the Crisis Leadership Development Training Program (FEMA) and has completed the Diamond and Platinum levels in the Leadership Program at the National League of Cities. He is a graduate of the advanced class of the SC Municipal Association and is a former board member of MASC.

He currently serves as a Board Member of the Association of SC Mayors and is President of the South Carolina Conference of Black Mayors . He serves on the Board of Directors for the Catawba Regional Council of Governments and also on the Executive Board of Directors. Mayor Thompson is recognized as a Riley Institute Diversity Fellow at Furman University for having completed the SC Diversity Leaders Initiative Upstate Class of XI. He is a member of Prince Hall Masons of South Carolina where he serves as District Deputy for Union, York, Chester, and Cherokee Counties, a member of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (and is a recipient of the Legion of Honor). He is a member of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Masons PHA and a 33° Mason. He is also a member of St Luke Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC.
