(Columbia, SC) — Thousands of book lovers are expected to gather inside and out at Richland Library Main as Read Freely Fest returns, March 27-29, for year two. The free book festival brings together 40+ bestselling, award-winning, and emerging authors from across the country, including some of the most influential voices in contemporary romance and a MacArthur Fellow, for a weekend of talks, panels, book sales, live music, a zine fair, and more.
Notable author talks and panels include:
- Headliner Kennedy Ryan — A New York Times bestselling author and one of the most influential voices in contemporary romance.
- Stories That Make Us Swoon — A standout romance panel featuring bestselling and fan-favorite authors, including Kennedy Ryan and Ashley Poston.
- Headliner Tiffany D. Jackson — A New York Times bestselling author redefining YA with psychological thrillers and sharp social commentary.
- Headliner Sadeqa Johnson — A New York Times bestselling author whose historical fiction brings overlooked stories to light.
- The Path to Public Service — Congressman James Clyburn discusses The First Eight, exploring the legacy of Black leadership that shaped South Carolina and the nation.
Book signings will follow each author talk, with attendees able to meet authors and have books signed onsite.
Beyond the panels, Read Freely Fest extends throughout Richland Library Main with an Exhibitor Hall featuring bookish goods and festival merch, a curated festival bookstore by All Good Books, live performances, and a $1 book sale benefiting the Richland Library Friends and Foundation.
The weekend begins with Overdue, an after-hours kickoff on Friday, March 27, from 7-11 p.m. (18+), featuring live music from Admiral Radio and 2 Slices, hands-on crafts, and more.
A limited-edition library card featuring artwork by Columbia native and bestselling graphic novelist ND Stevenson will debut during the festival. Attendees can sign up or upgrade their card to take one home, available while supplies last.
