COLUMBIA, S.C. – Show some Soda City love! Registration is now open for the inaugural 803 Day celebration to be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, and will include a host of activities in the Midlands area. This exciting day promises to unite our community in a day of joy, pride, and camaraderie as we come together to explore the city, enjoy live entertainment, and patronize local businesses.

803 Day is a play on our area code, recognized synonymously with the 8/03 date. As part of the inaugural festivities, local businesses, organizations, residents, and visitors are invited to participate in an array of exciting activities and promotions throughout the day. Here is what you can expect at this year’s celebration:

·       803 Day 5K Run/Walk (8AM): Lace up your running shoes and join us for a scenic 5K run/walk through the heart of Forest Acres. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for some fun and exercise, this event is open to participants of all ages and fitness levels. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cola Rose Shower, a nonprofit that celebrates women and promotes awareness to feminine care issues that plague women in the Greater Columbia area. Register HERE.

·       803 Photo Op at the SC State House (11AM): Capture memorable moments with a special photo opportunity at the iconic South Carolina State House. Pose for a group picture at this historic landmark and commemorate your 803 Day experience with others. Gather in front of the State House steps at 11 AM.

·       Free 803 Day Festival (12NOON – 5PM): Experience the beauty of the historic Robert Mills House & Gardens as we host a free festival featuring live music, interactive art installations, food trucks and vendors, exhibitors, and family-friendly activities. VIP access is available for $75.00 per person and includes an indoor reception with light refreshments, indoor restrooms, and private bar w/ beverage tickets. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a day outdoors with friends and family. Register HERE. Gather your back-to-school supplies and donate! Supplies will be collected by the JoO Foundation, a local nonprofit that provides resources to children and families in the Midlands.

·       Citywide Scavenger Hunt: Embark on an adventure through the Midlands with our engaging scavenger hunt. Solve clues, uncover hidden gems, and compete for exciting prizes. Scavenger hunt will be provided by the Soda City Certified app. Participants must download the free app and enter pin codes to receive points.

·       $8.03 Specials: Support local businesses with special $8.03 promotions all day long. Restaurants, bakeries & coffee shops, retail, barber shops, etc. are encouraged to participate.

“803 Day will be an experience unlike no other. Larger cities like Atlanta have 404 Day, Miami has 305 Day, St. Louis has 314 Day, etc. but none of them can compare to what the 803 is bringing to the area,” said Khali Gallman, event organizer. “803 Day is more than an event. It’s an opportunity to embrace the heart of our great state. The day symbolizes unity, pride, and a vibrant spirit of the area. This experience would not be possible without our generous sponsors. We encourage everyone to participate in one or more of the activities throughout the day.”

Special thank you to the 803 Day sponsors, including: Grace Outdoor, Yip Premier Real Estate, Hall’s Chophouse of Columbia, Brazilian Wax by Claudia (Lexington and NE Columbia locations), Jabber & Isaac Law Firm, the Soda City Certified App, Chris Whitehead, Financial Advisor of Edward Jones, Johnson, Toal, & Battiste, PA, CNY Attractions Event Specialists, Epitome of Real Estate, The Stanley Law Group, Mo Betta Soul, Carolina Signs and Design, Time to Shine Car Wash, Experience Columbia, The Cheer Lender, Imhotep the Drum, and Essential Specialized Planners.
