(Columbia, SC) – The Reemerge Reentry Program will host a special ceremony for past and current clients who have found success through entrepreneurship, training, and employment. The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2021, 6:00 pm at 400 Percival Road.

Reemerge will host the one-hour event featuring Overture Walker, Richland County Council member, as the main speaker, and media personality Curtis Wilson of WOLO TV.  To commemorate the occasion awardees will receive a certificate and a gift bag donated by local business and civic leaders.

“It is important for formerly incarcerated citizens to feel the support from their communities.  That sense of connectedness is a tremendous source of encouragement for them to stay on course,” said Diane Sumpter, president of DESA, Inc.  “Reemerge is excited to join with a host of partners that constitute an ever-expanding reentry ecosystem in South Carolina as we celebrate the noteworthy accomplishments made by current and former program participants.”

Reemerge is a 6-to-12-month reentry program that provides aid to returning citizens as they navigate the reintegration process.  The program first launched in the fall of 2018 to serve formerly incarcerated individuals in Richland and Lexington Counties and now encompasses most of the Midlands.
