(Columbia, SC) – Over the weekend, Scout Motors brought its newly unveiled concept vehicles, the Scout® Traveler™ SUV and Scout® Terra™ truck, to South Carolina for the first time for a series of celebratory events in the state that will soon be making them.
On Friday, the electric automaker hosted reveal celebrations in Columbia with its local South Carolina team, which has now grown to more than 200 employees, and with state and local community leaders.
Scout Motors CEO Scott Keogh delivered a keynote presentation about the vehicles and the company’s rapid progress as it works to establish its manufacturing operations in South Carolina. Then, Scout Motors VP of Exterior Design Jordan Meadows took attendees behind the scenes of the creation process, sharing the thinking that went into these bold new designs and explaining how the team drew from the heritage of the original Scout vehicles while embracing the ingenuity of modern technology.
Attendees included Gov. Henry McMaster, Congressman Joe Wilson, top leaders from the South Carolina Statehouse, and local officials from Richland County, the City of Columbia, and the Town of Blythewood, as well as an array of other community and business leaders from across the state.
Then on Saturday, the new Scout vehicles were displayed outside of Williams-Brice Stadium for five hours before the Gamecocks football game kicked off, allowing fans and local residents to get an up-close look, join the reservations list, and learn more about job openings from the Scout Motors recruitment team.
Finally, the all-new Scout Terra pickup truck drove out onto the field as part of the halftime show in front of the sold out crowd, with Gov. Henry McMaster, First Lady Peggy McMaster, USC President Michael Amiridis, USC Board Chair Thad Westbrook, Scout Motors CFO Chris Condon and Scout Motors VP of Exterior Design Jordan Meadows standing alongside it.
This exciting South Carolina reveal follows the national showcase that took place on October 24 and represents a significant milestone in the company’s story as it works to revitalize an iconic American brand and reshore thousands of American manufacturing jobs.
The new Scout vehicles will be manufactured at the company’s Production Center, which is currently under construction in Blythewood. Scout Motors is investing $2 billion in South Carolina to launch the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which will create more than 4,000 jobs and produce up to 200,000 vehicles per year at peak capacity. Initial production is targeted to begin in 2027.
