Senator John Scott to be Posthumously Honored in Voorhees University Hall of Fame Ceremony

(Denmark, SC) – Voorhees University announced that seven distinguished alumni will be inducted into the Voorhees Hall of Fame.

The late South Carolina State Senator John Scott will be posthumously honored with induction into the Voorhees University Hall of Fame. Senator Scott passed away at the age of 69 on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.

The induction ceremony will be held during the Alumni Hall of Fame Gala on Friday, November 10, as part of the Homecoming Weekend.

The other esteemed inductees this year include Allen Anderson, Julia Byrd-Barr, Tiffany Gary, Dr. LaTonya Gillespie-Johnson, Brittiane Staton, and Douglas Stokes.

According to the university, inductees are selected based on the “quality of the individual’s work in his or her chosen field of endeavor, professional leadership, and commitment to Voorhees University and their community.”
