COLUMBIA, S.C. – Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union is inviting South Carolina K-12 teachers to apply for its fourth annual Teacher of the Game program, presented in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Athletics. The program recognizes outstanding educators from across the state during Gamecock football home games throughout the 2026 football season.
“Palmetto Citizens’ story began with teachers coming together to support one another,” says Emilie Lewis, director of community engagement. “That legacy of service and community continues to guide us today. The Teacher of the Game program is one way we honor our roots and express our gratitude for the vital role local educators play in shaping the future of our community.”
Eligibility and Entry
Current full-time South Carolina K-12 educators are eligible to enter. Teachers may nominate themselves by completing the entry form at www.palmettocitizens.org/teacherofthegame. The deadline to apply is October 1, 2026.
Each honoree will receive:
- $1,000 from Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union.
- Four tickets to their featured week’s Gamecock football game.
- Recognition on the scoreboard and loudspeakers during the game.
Commitment to Education and Community
Founded 90 years ago by Midlands-area educators as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union, Palmetto Citizens has championed education since its beginning. Today, that commitment continues through the Palmetto Citizens Foundation and a variety of programs that support teachers, students and schools across South Carolina. Launched in 2023, the Teacher of the Game program is one of several initiatives that celebrates the lasting impact of teachers and reflects the mission and legacy at the heart of Palmetto Citizens.
In addition to Teacher of the Game, Palmetto Citizens is encouraging the community and teacher to partake in two additional education initiatives currently underway:
- Back-to-School Drive: Through Aug. 9, all South Carolina Palmetto Citizens branches are collecting new school supplies to help local students start the school year prepared for success. Community members are encouraged to donate items such as notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers and backpacks at their nearest branch.
- Teacher Grants Program: In addition, applications remain open through September for the Palmetto Citizens Foundation’s Teacher Grants Program, which provides funding to support classroom projects and education needs. Teachers can apply at https://palmettocitizensfoundation.org/teacher-grant-program/ by Sept. 30.
