Sustainable Midlands Launches Winter Membership Drive

COLUMBIA, S.C.  – Sustainable Midlands, the grass-roots nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage responsible growth, ensure access to local food, protect watersheds, and establish a healthy environment for all Midlands communities, is launching a Winter Membership Drive.  Until March 1, 2017, any member of the community is encouraged to join, with five different packages ranging from $50 to $999.

Individual Membership Package: $50

  • Exclusive access to Sustainable Midlands events
  • Subscription to the monthly Sustainable Midlands newsletter
  • One (1) free ticket to the Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival (Valued at $15)

*Must sign up by March 1, 2017 to qualify

  • One (1) free ticket to the Sustainable Holiday Celebration (Valued at $10)

Dual Membership Package: $85

  • Includes all the Individual membership perks-
  • Plus an additional ticket to Sustainable Holiday Celebration and Palmetto Tasty Tomato ticket
  • Two additional Tasty Tomato Tickets for 50% off

Supporter Package: $185

  • Includes all Individual and Dual membership level perks
  • Plus an original “Bee the Change” t-shirt
  • Recognition as a supporter on our website

Watershed Warrior: $300-$499

  • Includes all the Individual membership level perks
  • Two Sustainable Holiday Celebration Market tickets
  • An additional two tickets to the Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival

Champion Cultivator: $500-$999

Sustainable Midlands has been the authority of all things local, sustainable, and recyclable in the Midlands for 9 years.  Some of the organization’s programs and events include:

  • Adopt-A-Stream Program- monitoring water quality in Rocky and Smith Branch Watersheds
  • Coordination of recycling efforts at city-wide events and festivals
  • Host 3 signature events annually: Palmetto Tasty Tomato Festival, Sustainable Holiday Celebration Market, and -Wine for Water: An Earth Day Celebration
  • New for 2017! Launch of two K-12 curriculums in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield County Schools to ensure the future generations know how to protect the environment
  • Educate and engage over 430 participants and ten local farms in our Midlands Local Farm Tour event
  • Advocate for local sustainable farms by presenting at the South Carolina New Farmer Resource Rodeo and the Sustainable Agriculture Conference
  • Second annual publication of our Midlands Local Farm and Food Guide
  • Host 12 watershed informational sessions at schools, community events, & homeowner’s associations
  • Dedicate a full-time staff person to advocate for watershed and local food system initiatives at the local and regional policy-planning level at Richland County Penny Tax Greenway Committees, Blue Ribbon Flood Recovery Panel, with the Carolina Clear Consortium and with the Midlands Local Food Collaborative
