Chick-fil-A and Richland School District One NASA Challenger Center host Family Space Night – Monday February 10th 2014.  The Decker Boulevard Chick-fil-A is inviting all midland area students to come and eat dinner with the Mission Commander from the NASA Challenger Learning Center.

The Challenger Learning Center of Richland County School District One is an aeronautics and space-themed educational program designed to provide interactive learning experiences, integrating science and math curricula with information and technology.  Through various simulations, scenarios, and activities we offer, students develop skills in decision making, teamwork, problem solving, and communication.

Families will be able to engage in hands-on learning and view robots, rockets, aerospace engineering and aircraft designs. This is going to be a fun and educational dinner that your family will never forget.

Hiring Our Heroes Employment Fair – Tuesday February 11th  2014. The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the business community are coming together to support local veterans and military families at the Hiring Our Heroes employment fair. This one-of-a-kind employment fair will kick-off on Tuesday, February 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson.

There will be an opening ceremony with invited guests Governor Nikki Haley, Brigadier General Bradley Becker and Major General Bob Livingston. It will be held at the Solomon Center, located at 6510 Strom Thurmond Blvd., Fort Jackson, and the employment fair will last until 1 p.m.

Benedict College Black History Teleconference – Tuesday February 11th 2014 – Wednesday, February 12th 2014. The 27th annual Benedict College Black History Teleconference is February 11 and 12. This year’s theme is “The Golden Jubilee of the Civil Rights Act.” The two-day event begins with a black-tie gala at Embassy Suites at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. On Feb. 12, the teleconference will be held at Benedict College’s Little Theater. A panel of experts in health, business, marketing and law enforcement will be moderated by award-winning poet Nikky Finney.

The Aviation Employee Network (AEN) will hold their 31st annual Black History Month program on Wednesday, February 12 at 12 o’clock Noon in the Carolina Room at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

This year’s event celebrates the Golden Jubilee of the civil rights act and will feature a presentation from internationally renowned artist, Karl Wilkes, and Columbia Mayor, Steven K. Benjamin as the Keynote speaker.

Guests will enjoy additional entertainment including poetry and song.  A complimentary lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the program.
