Columbia, SC – Richland Library is hosting two dynamic Meet-the-Author events this week at Richland Library Main (1431 Assembly Street). Visitors can hear from the author and illustrator of the award-winning “Go Forth and Tell,” followed by a taste of the rising author with local ties, Gabby Goodwin.

On Thursday, June 19 at 6 p.m., children’s book author Breanna J. McDaniel and acclaimed illustrator April Harrison will visit Richland Library Main to explore the legacy of Augusta Baker, an influential librarian, educator, and trailblazer in storytelling and children’s literature, while giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of bringing her story to life in the acclaimed “Go Forth and Tell” . A book sale and signing will follow the conversation.

McDaniel is a passionate advocate for diversity in children’s publishing, while Harrison’s expressive and textured illustrations have earned her national recognition, including a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor. Together, their work shines a spotlight on the power of storytelling to honor history, build empathy, and inspire young readers.

On Sunday, June 22 at 3 p.m., the spotlight turns to teen entrepreneur and children’s book author Gabby Goodwin, who will present her latest book, “Naturally Me at the Confidence Salon”.

Known nationally as the CEO of GaBBY Bows, (a line of anti-slip barrettes) Goodwin will read from her book and speak candidly about her experience as a young Black entrepreneur, author, and role model. The event will be moderated by WIS TV’s Billie Jean Shaw, and will include a book signing in partnership with All Good Books.

Gabrielle “Gabby” Goodwin is the Eighteen-year-old CEO of Confidence. At the age of seven, she and her mom Rozalynn invented GaBBYBows, the first, sustainable and anti-slip Double-Face Double-Snap Barrette. They hold three U.S. patents.
