(Columbia, SC) – Today, to celebrate the culmination of Women’s History Month, At-Large City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine, announced the endorsements of more than 100 women leaders in business, politics, and constituents of the City of Columbia support her campaign to make “HERstory” by becoming the first woman ever to run for Mayor of the city of Columbia. Councilwoman Devine was joined by business owner, Xiaolan “Michelle” Wang Cao, former Chairwoman of the SC Democratic Party, Carol Fowler, Richland County Coroner, Naida Rutherford, and community leader, Tonya Isaac at M Grille in Downtown Columbia, SC.
If elected, Councilwoman Devine will be not only the first woman but the first African-American woman to serve in this position.
“I am running to be an independent voice, championing communities and from our list of women supporters you will see a diverse representation of our city, a city I am proud to represent as the next Mayor,” Councilwoman Devine said.
“I am supporting Tameika because she has proven herself to be a leader, to take the city we love and care about to the next level,” Carol Fowler said.
“Women for Devine have a very unique opportunity today and as we move forward to make one of our own, one who has served us tremendously, the next Mayor of Columbia, Richland County,” Coroner Naida Rutherford said.
Women For Devine includes Former Columbia City Councilwoman, Anne Sinclair, State Senator Mia McLeod, Former South Carolina Superintendent, Inez Tenenbaum, and Former Richland County Councilwoman Bernice Scott.
“Tameika has worked hard for our community! She has earned my support, “ Bernice Scott said.
“I am supporting Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Decine because she has the experience, temperament, and vision to be an excellent Mayor for the City of Columbia,” Inez Tenenbaum stated.
“As a proven leader in the city of Columbia for over a decade, Tameika has served the city through some of its most difficult challenges. She is a strong independent voice and a very thoughtful and innovative leader who has the experience to take the capital city to the next level,” Senator Mia McLeod says.
