(Columbia, SC) – The South Carolina HBCU Alumni Alliance is thrilled to announce the inaugural SC HBCU 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 16th at 9:00 AM in Downtown Columbia. This exciting event aims to celebrate HBCU excellence, promote health and wellness and foster community engagement. General registration is $45.00 until September 10th. Late registration is $55.00 until September 16th. Each participant will receive an official Certificate of Completion along with a registration packet featuring our sponsors.
Participants from all walks of life are invited to this self-paced event as the SC HBCU Alumni Alliance recognizes the historic contributions and achievements of HBCU students, alumni and faculty, specifically those in South Carolina.
“We are extremely excited to launch the South Carolina HBCU 5K Run/Walk in Columbia as part of the SC HBCU Alumni Alliance. The Alliance aims to create awareness about HBCU students and alumni living in South Carolina by holding social, educational, and fundraising events while improving health outcomes.,” said Khali Gallman, event organizer. “The 5K is a great opportunity for HBCU alumni, students, and supporters to unite, make a positive impact, and explore Columbia. The route will guide participants through the scenic streets of Downtown Columbia, offering a perfect setting to appreciate the vibrant history and culture of the city.”
The SC HBCU Alumni Alliance is proud to partner with Historic Columbia to offer FREE Mann-Simons site tours for race participants as part of the 45th annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History and Culture. Jubilee is a free outdoor festival with live entertainment, artisans, dancers, storytellers, vendors, and exhibitors that celebrate South Carolina’s black history and culture.
“We are always searching for ways to partner with organizations that align with the mission and core values of Historic Columbia. Our mission is to share the complex history of Columbia and Richland County through historic preservation advocacy, innovative educational programs, and strategic partnerships,” said Robin Waites, executive director, Historic Columbia. “Utilizing the Mann-Simons site, one of Columbia’s prominent historic landmarks, as an exciting tour celebration for race participants is an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors to experience our 45th annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History and Culture.”
