Columbia, S.C. -The South Carolina African American Heritage Commission (SCAAHC) is thrilled to announce its new logo.
“Threads of Connection” the logo’s concept blend history, culture, and community across the state and will be easily associated with our mission which is “to identify and promote the preservation of historic sites, structures, buildings, and culture of the African American experience in South Carolina.”
The mark at the heart of the logo draws its inspiration from the intricate coiling pattern of the sweetgrass basket. The sunburst form suggests both the weave of the basket and the threads of a community bound together by shared heritage, a visual metaphor for the diverse voices and stories the Commission works to honor and preserve.
“We are very excited to integrate this new logo and branding into our online presence and outreach materials,” announced Vivian Glover, chair of the 15-member commission “and we continue to be grateful to the South Carolina Department of Archives and History for their support to us and to our mission.”
