The Need to Publicize Minority Perspectives
The MinorityEye is on a mission to elevate authentic Black voices. We’re looking to publish original works by writers, poets, artists, and other creatives who have a desire to be a voice for the black community. We want to add their political opinions, critiques, or artistic interpretations of the current racial climate and wide-spread civil disobedience taking place in American today.
George Floyd’s public extrajudicial execution by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, sparked protests around the world. Thousands of people of all races, nationalies, genders, ages, religions and walks of life marched in the street alongside the black community to demand justice for George Floyd and to express their outrage and desire to end racism in our lifetime.
However, most of the white-owned corporate media outlets that dominate the airwaves and internet invite just a few status quo hyper-partisan blacks to their programs and ask those individuals to give the public at large insight into the mind and mood of the Black community. These go to black voices are generally known as safe Blacks. They’re recognized as black voices who are only going to stick to safe Neo-Liberal talking points and sound bites. More likely than not, their vision for the Black community is tied to the advancement of the Democratic Party’s political agenda and policy initiatives.
The act of only allowing a small cartel of individuals –often hand picked by Democratic political bosses, Kay Street lobbyist firms and special interest groups– to speak for the entire black community is insulting, misleading and in no way constitutes an authentic representation and perspective of the black experience across the nation.
The MinorityEye is taking a different approach. We’re looking to publish the stories of our social justice soldiers who have put the welfare of the “Village” before their personal advancement. We want to give voice to those who are fighting everyday on the frontlines in the battle for equality and justice. It is our mission to provide a public platform where black intellectuals can display and promote their work so that those interested in finding a more detailed and truthful narrative of the Black Experience in post Gegore Floyd America.
